Physiotherapy for all women in Launceston, Tasmania

Stay active during pregnancy

Pelvic floor physiotherapy can prevent some of the common issues that arise from pregnancy and birth, while knowledge of birth positions and perineal massage can reduce the risk of significant tearing.

Empower yourself by booking a pregnancy physiotherapy assessment.

What to expect

Pelvic floor initial assessment

We are a strong believer in physiotherapy for the pelvic floor being a “standard” part of antenatal care (for all women, even those not experiencing any symptoms).

During a pregnancy pelvic floor assessment, Monique will ask lots of questions about:
  • bladder and bowel habits,
  • pelvic pain symptoms,
  • obstetrics, gynaecology and general medical history.
This appointment is designed to:
  • prescribe an individualised pelvic floor exercise program to treat (if already experiencing) or prevent urinary incontinence,
  • educate on other common conditions like pelvic organ prolapse,
  • address any pregnancy-related musculoskeletal pain or discomfort,
  • educate on exercise during pregnancy

This consultation may include an internal pelvic floor examination. This is the gold standard for assessing the activation, coordination, and integrity of your pelvic floor muscles to give you an accurate diagnosis and individualised pelvic floor muscle exercise program.

However, if you do not wish to have an internal pelvic floor assessment there are many other options for assessing your pelvic floor and relevant symptoms.
